The whole story begun 1907 in America where Dr. Howard Hay (1866 – 1940) looked for a solution for his own heavy nephritic illness. The doctors had given up, he tried to cure himself. He studied food science and naturopathy intensely and changed his nutrition basically. To the big astonishment of his colleagues who had held him for incurable,  Hay recoverd and felt younger and more powerful than ever before. He wrote down his knowledge in books. The best known work „A new health era “ reached 1939 in the hands of the german doctor Dr. Ludwig Walb (1907 – in 1992) by chance. He quickly recognised the advantages of this nutrition form and treated several thousand people in his clinic in Homberg / Ohm. 90 to 95% of the patients improved their state of health with big success. Many patients recovered completely, although they were already given up by the mainstream medicine.

However, to the eyes of most doctors and societies, the Hay's healing's technic was too simple and was boycotted constantly. Dr. Walb, tired from the long debate, withdrew  into his clinic and was known only to insiders. Long time one saw and heard nothing from the food combining and it almost seemed as if this is lost for good. Today the Hay's food combining counts for the best known nutrition form. This healthy form of nutriotion owes the name to Mrs. Ilse Walb (1907 – i1992), wife of the doctor Dr. Ludwig Walb.  The name  „TRENNKOST " (food combining) came from her.

Food combining is not a diet, but a nutrition rearrangement. It claims to work by separating out food groups into those which are "alkaline, acidic and neutral". Acid foods are not combined with the alkaline ones. "Acid" foods are protein rich, meat, fish, dairy, etc., and "alkaline" the carbohydrate-rich starch foods like rice, grains and potatoes. This means in practice that no potato or pasta should be chosen as an addition to a meat course or fish dish. Instead, richly salads and / or vegetables. Vice versa no meat or other egg white should be eaten to a potato or pasta or rice, but likewise richly salads and / or vegetables.

THE PURPOSE OF FOOD COMBINING ARE :

- More energy by separating food, because "mixed food" makes you tired and flabby.
- More health by harmony between acid and base, because rich in bases food has a detoxifying function.
- More loss of weight by a well-balanced blood glucose, because ravenous hunger makes thick.
- More beauty by this natural life-style, because a contented body makes happy.

 

Examples for the breakfast:

Egg white meal:
Eat in the morning fruit in any amount, e.g., pineapple, melon, oranges, apples, or strawberries. No bananas, dates or figs fit to these sour kinds of fruit. Improperly to fresh fruit is also grain in the form of bread or cereal. Or eat eggs in different variations. Also no bread in addition, but richly tomatoes, cucumbers, paprika or other raw vegetarian food. Ham, sausage or cheese can be included.

Carbohydrate meal:
Cereal from cereal flakes, in addition bananas, raisins, nuts and cores. No sour fruit or fresh milk, but only acidulated milk products, e.g., yoghurt, Kefir, curd. Or eat bread or bread roll, in addition the layer from the neutral row, e.g., butter, salami, raw ham, Tatar, different cheese (see cheese list), curd, yolk. (Indeed, these dishes count to the neutral food, nevertheless, should be used sparingly).

Examples to the lunch or dinner:

Egg white meal:
If you like to eat at noon or in the evening an egg white meal, then choose a fish - meat - eggs - or cheese court. In addition no potatoes, pasta, rice or bread. Instead, richly salad and vegetables. A rule of thumb says: eat 3 - 4 times more salads / vegetables than meat, fish, eggs or cheese.

Carbohydrate meal:
If you liked to eat a carbohydrate meal, then choose pasta, noodles, potatoes, rice or grain. Eat, in addition, richly salad and / or vegetables (also here the 3-4-fold amount). In addition no meat, fish, cheese or eggs.
